The Donald and Doris M’Timkulu Award is named in honour of the late Donald M’Timkulu, former Professor and Acting Principal of Renison, and Doris M’Timkulu, a former Board member and long-time friend of Renison.

Dr. M’Timkulu had a lasting impact on Renison. Before his arrival in 1969 he had already distinguished himself as a scholar of Sociology, and was well known for being generous and kind. During his tenure he stepped into the role of Acting Principal when the unexpected passing of Principal Wyn Rees left the position vacant in 1971. As Principal, Dr. M’Timkulu oversaw the first Renison graduates in 1972, the development of several Renison specializations, and the name change of Applied Social Science to Social Development Studies (as it is still known).

This impact is continued with the Donald and Doris M’Timkulu Award, which is given to full-time Renison students who have demonstrated commitment to voluntary service in an international or multicultural context.

Thank you for helping us continue to support students with this award.
